About Us

What we're about and why we exist

Our Mission

The Charlotte ACM Chapter is a professional chapter of ACM, the world's largest computing society. We were chartered on February 17, 2026. We're based in Charlotte, North Carolina, but anyone interested in computing is welcome to join and participate.

Our goal is simple: bring together people who work in or care about computing. We do that through talks, workshops, networking, and access to ACM resources like the Distinguished Speakers Program, which brings well-known computing experts to speak at local chapters. ACM covers their travel, so our members get to hear from people they'd normally only see at big conferences.

Charlotte has a growing tech scene with major financial institutions, healthcare companies, and startups. But you don't have to be local to be part of this. If you're a software engineer, data scientist, security professional, researcher, student, or just someone who likes technology, there's a place for you here.

Our Purpose

The purpose of Charlotte ACM Chapter is to advance computing as both a science and a profession.

Foster Knowledge Sharing

Give members a place to exchange ideas, insights, and best practices across all areas of computing.

Encourage Professional Growth

Support continuous learning through talks, workshops, and mentoring opportunities.

Build Community Connections

Create a welcoming environment where students, educators, researchers, and industry professionals can collaborate.

Inspire Innovation

Spark creativity and problem-solving through events, projects, and collaboration.

Promote Ethical and Inclusive Practices

Champion diversity, equity, and responsible use of technology.

Through these efforts, Charlotte ACM Chapter seeks to strengthen the local tech community and contribute to the broader mission of the Association for Computing Machinery.
